Botswana National Identity Card is used to show that one is a citizen of the Republic of Botswana. It is a requirement by law that every Motswana above the age of 16 have one. This card is also commonly known as Omang and is valid for 10 years, after which it must be renewed.

Botswana National Identity Card Registration Procedure
In order to access this service, applicants must complete the following steps:
- For applicants applying for an Omang Card for the first time, complete and submit the Application for Registration (1st Schedule).
- For applicants applying for an Omang Card due to loss, renewal, theft, damage or change of surname, complete and submit the Application for Replacement.
- Along with the application form, submit the required documents (listed below) and provide finger prints. At the time of submission, a receipt will be issued to the applicant.
- The form is then forwarded to a centralized production center for processing. Upon successful processing, an Identity is issued for collection by the client.
- A receipt of submission is required when collecting the Identity Card.
- New applications done after 30 days of the applicant’s sixteenth birthday or acquiring citizenship are referred to as late registration. Applicants will be referred to the Botswana Police Service for cautioning and fining before collecting the Identity.
Requirements for First-time Omang Applicants
- The applicant must be at least 16 years old.
- The applicant must come in person to the embassy.
- Birth certificate
- One copy of each parents’ identity document (If one or both parents are Batswana, copies of their Omang are required. If one of the parents is a foreigner, a copy of their passport is required.)
- 2 recent black and white passport-sized photographs
- USA $1.00 in cash
Requirements for Renewing Omang
- Expired Omang card (to be surrendered to the embassy officer)
- The applicant must come in person to the embassy.
- 2 recent black and white passport-sized photographs
- USA $1.00 in cash
Requirements for Renewing Omang
- Expired Omang card (to be surrendered to the embassy officer)
- The applicant must come in person to the embassy.
- 2 recent black and white passport-sized photographs
- USA $1.00 in cash
Requirements for Replacing Lost Omang
- Affidavit attesting to the lost Omang
- The applicant must come in person to the embassy.
- 2 recent black and white passport-sized photographs
- USA $15.00 in cash
